Story :
Babes in Toyland also known as March of the Wooden Soldiers is a Laurel & Hardy comedy film. Laurel and Hardy are 2 toy makers in a Toyland living in a shoe with Mother Peep, Bo Peep and other children. So far so good. But, the villain, Barnaby owns mortgage on the shoe and has an eye on Bo Peep,who is in love with Tom-Tom. In order to pay the mortgage, Laurel and Hardy try to borrow money from their employer,Toymaker. They are assigned an order from Santa Claus for making 100 wooden soldiers 6 feet tall. So far so good. But, Laurel goofs it up by making 600 wooden soldiers 1 feet tall. As a result, they get thrown out.
Next, they try stealing the mortgage money from Barnaby’s house, but get caught for stealing the money owing to their clumsiness. Barnaby threatens to punish them by sending them to Bogeyland if Bo Peep does not marry him. Bo Peep reluctantly agrees to marry him. But, at the marriage Hardy asks Barnaby for the mortgage as the wedding present. When Barnaby hands it to him, he tears it up and lifts the bride’s veil to reveal Laurel, disguised as the bride. Thus, Bo Peep is freed and also the mortgage gets resolved. But, Barnaby plans to take revenge on them.

This film is regularly shown on many US TV channels during Christmas or Thanksgiving day. It’s a typical Laurel & Hardy film with filled with their style of comedy. Ideal for kids and the child in all adults.

Monkey Mouse : The Mickey Mouse costume in the film was actually worn by a capuchin monkey.
Accidents on sets : There were numerous accidents on the sets during the shooting of this film. Laurel broke his ligaments by falling from a platform. Henry Brandon was injured in a bar brawl. Hardy had his tonsils removed. Producer Hal Roach had appendicitis.
