Story :
Gone with the Wind is regarded as the greatest drama film ever made. It is adapted from Margaret Mitchell’s novel of the same name. This 1939 epic film tells the story of the American Civil War from a white Southern point of view. The film revolves around the strange love story of the beautiful but manipulative, Scarlett and the handsome but roguish, Rhett Butler. Scarlett is in love with Ashley, who is about to get engaged to his placid cousin Melanie.

At the barbecue hosted at Ashley’s house, Scarlett confesses her love to Ashley when they are alone. But, Ashley rejects her gently. In anger, Scarlett slaps him, but soon realizes that Rhett Butler has overheard their entire conversation. Soon war breaks out. Scarlett has a short marriage with Melanie’s younger brother, Charles, who dies of pneumonia. Rest of the film is about Scarlett’s emotional drama and Rhett love affair with her.

After adjusting for inflation, this film is the highest grossing of all time at the box office. It has sold more tickets than any other film in history. It won 10 Academy Awards. All the stars had given their best performances for this film.

Bad Kiss : Vivien Leigh, who played Scarlett, stated that she did not like kissing Clark Gable. His breath smelled bad due to his false teeth.
Oscars Shower : Vivien Leigh won the best actress award. Although, Clark Gable was nominated, he did not win the award for best actor.
Ironic deaths : Olivia de Havilland’s character Melanie is the only principal character to die in the movie. Ironically Olivia de Havilland is the only member of the top four members of the cast to still be alive. Leslie Howard died in a plane crash during the war, Clark Gable died of a heart-attack in 1960, and Vivien Leigh died of tuberculosis in 1967.
