Story :
The Cabinet of Dr. Caligari is a landmark 1920 silent film best known for it’s stylized visuals and artistic entertainment. It is one of the earliest, most influential and most artistically acclaimed German Expressionist films. German Expressionism in films was an artistic movement of using stylized,distorted and wildly exaggerated often cartoonish sets and symbolism for creating a particular mood or effect.

The plot of the film is about a deranged hypnotist Dr. Caligari who uses his faithful sleepwalker, Cesare to commit murders. The film is shown as being narrated by Francis (Friedrich Feher) to a friend. There is a surprise twist at the end of the film.

This film had very major impact on film-making. Many filmmakers including the great Alfred Hitchcock were influenced by the artistic symbolisms and ideas used in this film. The Universal Horror Movies of the 1920s and 1930s including The Phantom of Opera and Frankenstein films were also influenced by this film.

Fake and Real Remake : The 1962 movie , “The Cabinet of Caligari”, written by Robert Bloch (Psycho fame) although was claiming to be inspired by this film, it’s story is different. So, it was not a remake. There was a remake in 2005 which won many awards at Horror film fests.
