Story :
The Gold Rush starring Charlie Chaplin is a silent comedy classic which is a satirical commentary regarding on the Klondike Gold Rush of 1898 and the tragically gruesome Donner Party story, in which the emigrants after becoming snowbound for many weeks had to resort to eating their own clothings and even cannibalism. Only 48 of the 89 emigrants survived . The Tramp character played by Charlie Chaplin joins the gold rush. After he gets separated from his group due to bad weather, he finds a shelter in the cabin of an escaped criminal. Another prospector comes along and they drive Chaplin away.

There many tragically comic incidents in the film. In one scene, Chaplin is shown “cooking” his own boot and eating it as if it is something meaty or tasty. Georgia Hale plays his love interest. While the social message in the film could be showing the tragedy caused due to human greed, Chaplin with his own unique style portrays the message very effectively.
